All Members and Fellows of the American Psychological Association (APA)
Dear Colleagues: Since 2002 I have been collecting signatures from APA Members to petition for a new division of Energy Psychology and Psychotherapy . Thus far I have obtained approximately 100 signed petitions. However, we will need a minimum of 800 names of APA members who are willing to join this new division (1% of the total APA Members and Fellows). We will also need to establish by-laws, Division Officers, Council Representatives, and all the "fun stuff" that goes with running an APA Division. I am in possession of the background and procedural documentation necessary to establish this new Division including the Handbook for Division Officers, which lays out current policy guidelines that apply to the creation of new divisions and examples of proposals that were submitted to the Council of Representatives for consideration as models. Much work is required to establish a new division within APA. We psychologists who share the common interest in Energy Psychology and Psychotherapy must take the necessary steps to acquire the needed signatures to make this division a reality. I strongly encourage you to complete the APA "Signature Card" (separate sheet) requesting this new division of Energy Psychology and Psychotherapy. The process is easy; just complete the single page "Signature Card", sign it, and mail it back to me via the postal service. Please, also share copies of the "Signature Card" with other interested colleagues and invite him or her to participate. With your help, we can begin to create our own voice in APA and take the awareness of Energy Psychology and Psychotherapy to a higher level of awareness, respectability and acceptance. Thank you! John Diepold APA and ACEP Update: Please continue reading The APA - ACEP Meeting in Washington, DC
In August 2005 I (along with Dr.Tom Tudor and Dr. Phil Friedman) attended a meeting in Washington, DC with the APA Chair of the Education Directorate and several Committee members who over-see the awarding of CEUs for training in psychology and psychotherapy. We again presented information and written documents to support reinstatement of CEUs for training in Energy Psychology and thought field therapy approaches. Presentation of information for the same purpose had been provided previously over the several years prior. Each time we get a step closer to APA knowing of our interests and that we are here to stay. In August 2007, Dr. Larry Stoler (ACEP President) and Dr. Bob Schwarz (ACEP Board member) traveled to Washington, DC to participate in a meeting with Dr. Cynthia Belar (Chair of APA's Education Directorate) for the specific purpose of discussing CEUs for seminars, workshops, and training in Energy Psychology and Psychotherapy approaches. The meeting was reported to have resulted in encouragement for ACEP to apply to become an APA approved CEU provider for training in Energy Psychology approaches. This position was reportedly bolstered by the fine work of Dr. David Feinstein in summarizing the documented evidence for the efficacy of Energy Psychology approaches. You can view his article at www.energypsych.org , which substantiates that APA's criteria for CEUs has been met! As you know, the various Energy Psychology approaches and their effectiveness need to be shared with our professional colleagues and studied/researched by those who have the time, ability, and finances to do so. Now is the time to inform and educate as many colleagues as possible about what we know and use on a daily basis in our clinical practices. In this regard I ask that you please do the following: 1)
Print, complete, sign, and mail the "Signature
Card" to me supporting the formation of a Division of Energy
Psychology and Psychotherapy.
Thank you, John
Diepold
